The Association, now in its 22nd year, is an ad hoc group of approximately 30 companies that collects and processes information on salary programs, benefits and other policies of member firms. Activities of the group include an annual Salary Survey, an extensive Policies and Practices Survey and an Annual Turnover/Turnover Aging Survey.

Membership is limited to manufacturing firms engaged in research and development. Average size of its approximate 30 member firms is in excess of 900 employees.
